How it works

Three steps from link to learning

No editing, no note-taking, no scrubbing the timeline. Paste a URL and Unfurl does the rest — you can close the tab and we'll email you when it's ready.

1

Paste your YouTube video URL

Drop in a YouTube link — or up to five to synthesize one guide from a whole playlist or series (up to 3 hours combined).

2

We structure it

Unfurl transcribes the video, breaks it into chapters and skill levels, and drafts a clean, readable guide with timestamps back to the source.

3

Learn and act

Ask the transcript-grounded chat tutor anything, then work through a SMART action plan that turns the video into concrete steps.

What you get

Not a summary. A guide you can work through.

Raw transcripts and AI summaries leave you where you started — still watching. Unfurl is built around doing.

Structured guides

Chapters, skill levels, and timestamps that link straight back to the moment in the video — skim or go deep.

A tutor you can talk to

Type — or tap the mic and just talk. Real-time voice conversations with a tutor grounded in the transcript: explanations, summaries, or a quick quiz, all from the source material, hands-free while you work.

A do-it action plan

Turn any guide into a SMART action plan — specific, measurable steps drawn from the video, shaped to your goal, schedule, and skill level, ready to export and follow.

A shareable infographic

Turn any guide into a single, hand-illustrated infographic — a warm, sketchnote-style visual summary of the key ideas, sized for A4 and ready to download or share.

Also in every plan: voice conversations with every guide’s tutor · synthesize up to 5 videos into one guide · a searchable library of everything you’ve generated · generate straight from Telegram · download guides as PDF and infographics as PNG · chapters and quoted answers cite timestamps straight from the video.

The part people share

Every guide becomes a shareable infographic.

One hand-illustrated, sketchnote-style visual that captures the whole guide at a glance — sized for A4, downloadable as a PNG, and made to drop into a thread, a deck, or your notes.

Who it's for

One tool, many ways to stop just watching

Anywhere a long video holds knowledge you actually need to use, Unfurl turns it into something structured, answerable, and actionable.

Self-learners

Finish the course you keep half-watching

Turn dense lectures, conference talks, and tutorials into navigable guides with a tutor on call — and an action plan so the knowledge leaves the screen and enters your week.

Creators & educators

Repackage your video catalog as guided courses

Your back catalog of YouTube videos and webinars is already a curriculum. Unfurl converts it into structured, chat-enabled guides your audience can learn from — and act on.

Teams & L&D

Turn recordings into onboarding

All-hands, training sessions, and recorded walkthroughs become searchable guides with a built-in tutor — so new hires get answers without booking time with the expert.

Researchers & analysts

Distill long talks into structured references

Interviews, panels, and deep-dive talks become chaptered, queryable references with action plans — so hours of footage become a few minutes of decisions.

Hobbyists & makers

Cook it, build it, grow it — straight from the video

Recipes, DIY builds, gardening and craft tutorials become a step-by-step action plan and a one-glance infographic you can keep open at the stove or the workbench — instead of scrubbing back for the step you missed.

Fitness & wellness

Turn a workout video into a plan you finish

Training programs, yoga flows, and meal-prep routines become a structured plan with the moves, sets, and timing spelled out — so you follow the routine instead of pausing and rewinding it.

Builders & side-hustlers

Turn “how I did it” videos into your next move

Business breakdowns, marketing walkthroughs, and build-in-public talks become a concrete action plan you can start this week — not another tab of inspiration you never reopen.

Students

Study the lecture, don’t just replay it

Lecture playlists become chaptered study guides with a tutor that explains, summarizes, or quizzes you from the source — active understanding, not passive replay. (Cramming flashcards for a test? A dedicated study tool fits that better — see the FAQ.)

Whichever one you are, the method is the same — how to actually learn from YouTube rather than just watch it.

Why Unfurl

The difference between watched, learned — and done

A transcript gives you words. A summary gives you the gist. A study tool quizzes you on what you watched. Unfurl gives you a path through the material — and out the other side.

Capability Unfurl AI study tools Raw transcript Manual notes
Chapters & skill levels Flat notes Hours of work
Ask questions about the content Grounded tutor Chat, loosely grounded
Answers cite the exact second Deep-links to YouTube Rarely
What you walk away with SMART action plan Quizzes & flashcards If you write them
Combine several videos Up to 5 → one guide Sometimes
Time to value 5–20 minutes Fast notes Instant but unusable The length of the video
Saved, searchable library Usually Scattered docs

Study tools stop at remembering. Notes, quizzes and flashcards get you ready for a test — but most of what you watch has no test. You have to actually build the thing. That’s why every Unfurl guide ends in an action plan, not a grade.

Hours are approximate — under the hood, everything is credits: a guide costs 2.5 credits per video-minute of source material, and action plans and infographics are a flat 30 credits each on top (plans grant Starter 650, Pro 1,500, Power 3,500 a month). Unused plan credits roll over; one-time packs — 300 credits for $4.99, bigger packs too — never expire and work with or without a plan.

Questions

Frequently asked

What is Unfurl?

Unfurl is a web app that turns YouTube videos into transcript-grounded guides. Each guide comes with a chat tutor that answers questions from the video's own content and a SMART action plan that turns what you watched into concrete steps — taking you from passively watching to actively doing.

What videos can I turn into a guide?

Paste any YouTube link — or up to five at once — and Unfurl synthesizes a single guide from all of them. Combined length can be up to 3 hours per guide. You confirm you have the rights to use the source videos.

How long does it take to generate a guide?

Most guides finish in 5 to 20 minutes depending on length. You can close the tab — Unfurl emails you the moment it's ready.

Do you use my videos or content to train AI?

No. We send a video's transcript to third-party AI services only to transcribe it and build your guide — and we never use your content, or anyone's, to train AI models. The providers we rely on don't train their models on it either. We never sell your data or use it for advertising.

Does Unfurl take credit or views away from the original creators?

No — the opposite. A guide is transcript-grounded companion notes, not a copy or a replacement for the video. Every guide credits the original, names its creator or channel, and links back to it, with each chapter deep-linking to the exact timestamp on YouTube — so a guide sends people to the source rather than around it. You confirm you have the rights to any video you submit, and we honor DMCA requests. Creators who'd like their videos handled differently can reach us at hello@unfurl.sh.

How is Unfurl different from a transcript or an AI summary?

A transcript gives you raw words and a summary gives you the gist — both leave you still watching. Unfurl builds a structured, chaptered guide you work through, a chat tutor that answers from the video's own transcript, and a SMART action plan that turns the video into concrete next steps.

Does Unfurl make quizzes or flashcards?

Not as a feature — though you can ask any guide's chat tutor to quiz you and it will, from the video's own transcript. Unfurl just isn't built for exam prep: flashcards check whether you remember a video, while the action plan checks whether you can do what it taught. If you're cramming for a test, a dedicated study tool may serve you better; if you're learning to build or do something, that's what Unfurl is for.

Can I use PDFs, lecture recordings, or articles?

Not yet — Unfurl is YouTube-only today, and that focus is deliberate: it's what lets every chapter deep-link to the exact second of the source video and the tutor quote timestamps straight from its transcript. If your material lives in PDFs and slide decks, a general study tool is the right choice; if you learn from YouTube, Unfurl goes deeper than any of them.

Is there a free version of Unfurl?

Yes. Every account starts with a 7-day free trial that includes 150 credits — enough for your first guide plus its action plan — and no credit card. During the trial you get full guides, the transcript-grounded chat tutor, SMART action plans, and shareable infographics.

What is the chat tutor?

Every guide has a tutor grounded in that video's transcript. Ask it to explain a concept, summarize a section, or quiz you — by typing, or out loud: tap the mic for a real-time voice conversation and keep your hands on your work. Answers come from the source material, not generic web text.

What is an action plan?

Alongside each guide, Unfurl generates a SMART action plan — specific, measurable steps drawn from the video — that you can export and actually work through.

Can I get an infographic?

Yes. Any guide can be turned into a single, hand-illustrated infographic — a warm, sketchnote-style visual summary of the key ideas, on-brand and sized for A4 so you can download or share it. Available on every plan, including your free trial.

How much does Unfurl cost?

You can pay as you go — credit packs start at $4.99 for 300 credits, enough to turn about two hours of video into guides with action plans and infographics, and pack credits never expire. No subscription needed. Learning every week? Plans give you a better rate: Starter is $9/month (about 4 hours of video), Pro is $19/month (about 10 hours), and Power is $39/month (about 23 hours), with annual billing getting 2 months free. Everyone starts with a 7-day free trial, and unused plan credits roll over.

Do my credits expire?

Plan credits roll over month to month up to your plan's rollover cap — anything above the cap expires at renewal (after a downgrade, the new plan's cap applies). Credits you buy as one-time top-up packs never expire.

Is there a mobile app or browser extension?

No native app or extension yet — Unfurl is a web app that works well on a phone, and guides, action plans, and infographics are made to be read anywhere. You can also generate guides without opening the app at all, by sending a YouTube link to our Telegram bot.

Can I use Unfurl from Telegram?

Yes. Link your Unfurl account to our Telegram bot, then send it a YouTube link to generate a guide right from chat — and get a notification the moment it's ready, without opening the app.
